Gala Fashion ShowNairobi National Park, May 24th 2008The Fashion for Peace Gala Show was a tremendous success. The following top African designers from around the continent were joined by collections from Kenyan designers:
The event commenced with a welcome by Dr Ongong'a Ochieng, Managing Director of the Kenya Tourist Board. Guest of Honour, Mrs Ida Odinga, also said some opening words, before Mulesi Kinaro spoke about the work of the Alternatives to Violence Project in Kenya, which is being supported by this event. Explosive entertainment from the Jua Kali Kids got us started with a bang, while Suzanna Owiyo and Yunasi provided other musical entertainment. |
Imane AyissiBorn in Cameroon and now based in France, Imane Ayissi has worked as a model, dancer and actor and creates refined collections with a delightful mixture of materials and accessories. "When I create, I like to tell a story, to mix movement and dance."

KooRooKooRoo's twice-yearly collections use mainly traditional African fabrics, reinterpreted into very contemporary and high quality tailored garments for women and men.
Paul-Hervé ElisabethPaul-Hervé Elisabeth discovered Africa in the late 90's, and mixes tradional elements of Afro-Caribbean culture with and trends in contemporary Paris fashion.
Tribe - Kwesi NtiGhanaian Kwesi Nti trained in Italy, and has carved out a niche for himself in fashion and footwear - using high quality linens, embroidery, cowry shells, beads and bronze work.
Moo CowCarol and Wambui's label, named after a college nickname, has collections targetted at young professional women with less than fashion-magazine perfect bodies who appreciate style with a sense of fun.
Palvika RathodUK-based Palvika's collections are entirely made up unwanted and discarded materials. "I rescue fabrics from their journey towards destruction and individually customise them with elaborate crochet trims and details."

John KavekeKaveke's style is a contemporary mix with a little bit of an edge. It can be classical or unstructured, surrounded by notes of handmade Maasai beadwork.
Modela CoutureBorn in Lagos, Bayo Adegbe is the benchmark for creative and original Nigerian haute couture designs and a leading modelling agent.
Sally KaragoSally enjoys creating collections using simple style lines, fusing fabrics together to create a strong unique contemporary African look. She passionately believes that the best of Africa is yet to be achieved.
Pathe'OFrom a simple storefront in gritty Treicheville, the tailors' quarter of Abidjan, Pathe Ouedraogo redefines African casual. "Before, no African chairman of a company or head of state had a choice" says Ouedraogo. Nelson Mandela adopted the Pathe'O look in 1994.
